Belmont Shore Residents Association MINUTES GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING September 13, 2007 The meeting was called to order by Secretary Jeff Miller at 6:45 pm. The Officers and Directors present were Judith Blevens, Jillian Chandler, Kenneth Cinotto, Jeanette Gavin, Michael Gavin, Roy Hanson, Jeff Miller, and Marshall Pumphrey. Approximately one hundred fifty additional BSRA members and visitors were present. The start of the meeting was delayed to allow time for new members to join, pay dues, and receive ballots. The Election Committee checked members on the roster as they arrived and distributed election ballots to each member. Election Committee members were Barbara Anders, Silvia Barger, and Janet Dignam. The meeting agenda was approved. The minutes of the August meeting were approved. Sgt. Joe Klein from the Long Beach Police Department reported on recent increased enforcement activities on Second Street. He also noted there is now a "stay-away" order in effect for John Belmonte, prohibiting his presence on Second Street. Secretary Jeff Miller explained the procedures for the Executive Board election. Each of the candidates spoke briefly, stating their reasons for running for the board. Treasurer Jeanette Gavin reported the checking account has a balance of $ 1,513.11, not counting new and renewing membership dues received at this meeting. Jeanette Gavin, the BSRA representative on the Parking Commission, reported the status of the Second Street alley repair project. The repairs will be financed by a bond issue. Negotiations are in progress to coordinate water line repairs and possible relocation of utilities underground. Secretary Jeff Miller reported the status of the Cabo Cantina property: The association has received the two "Plan Correction Lists" issued to the developer by the Planning Department, in response to a written request citing the California Public Records Act. The first list of 31 items and the second list of 22 items include these un-permitted items: an indoor bar, the sidewalk railing, outdoor storage spaces, building wall changes, and excess dining areas. Also cited were missing plans, permits, and insufficient parking. The Planning Department has received new plans, but these are still insufficient and a new set of corrections will be issued, according to city planner Lynette Ferenczy. City of Long Beach Southeast Community Planner Mark Hungerford reported three items pertaining to Belmont Shore: An application for an outdoor flower cart and news stand at 5303 E. Second Street, the naming of the alley adjacent to Livingston Drive to Lois Lane, and a building facelift at Laverne Ave. and Second Street. Julie Maleki from Councilman Gary DeLong's office presented a brief report. Gene Rotondo, President of the Belmont Shore Business Association, thanked the BSRA volunteers who assisted with the recent Stroll and Savor event, and announced a donation of $300 to BSRA for their assistance. Jeff Miller referred the audience to the list of events printed on the agenda and announced several additional items: the Coastal Commission meeting on October 10, 11, and 12 at which the appeal of the Home Depot project will be heard; a city-sponsored forum on global warming on October 4, and a fund raising event for the Los Cerritos Wetlands on October 13. The meeting was adjourned at 7:45 pm. The Election Committee adjourned to another location to continue counting the ballots. They completed the count and announced the results at 10 pm.
